1. Sweat and pH Disruption

During intense exercise, sweat rate increases dramatically and the pH of sweat rises — meaning the sweat sitting on your skin during a hard workout is more alkaline than your skin's optimal pH of 4.5–5.5. Prolonged contact with alkaline sweat disrupts the acid mantle, temporarily raising skin surface pH and creating conditions favorable to pathogenic bacteria.

3. Heat and TEWL

The Post-Workout Skin Recovery Protocol

Step 1: Rinse within 30 minutes. Do not let sweat sit on skin for more than 30 minutes post-workout.

Step 3: Pat dry, do not rub. Rubbing with a towel is mechanical friction on already-stressed skin.
