About Veracil — Our Story, Our Team & Our Standards

About Veracil

A Black female-owned wellness brand rooted in ancestral healing traditions and modern evidence-based science — built by two people who believe you deserve the truth about what you put on your skin.

Our Story: From Jamaica to the Science Lab

Veracil was born from two distinct but deeply complementary journeys.

Barbara Clark grew up in Jamaica, where alternative healing isn’t a trend — it’s a way of life. She watched her grandmother treat ailments with herbs from her garden and learned that nature provides everything we need to heal and thrive. When she came to the United States, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), specializing in caring for elderly clients living with dementia. Every day, she witnessed the vulnerability of aging, the importance of gentle care, and how small, natural interventions could make a meaningful difference in her clients’ comfort and well-being.

In January 2026, Barbara achieved a lifelong dream: becoming a United States citizen. That same year, she co-founded Veracil — a brand that honors the healing traditions she grew up with while making premium, natural beauty and wellness products accessible to everyone.

Robert Lee came to Veracil from a different direction: frustration with the gap between what skincare science actually supports and what the wellness industry claims. He wanted to know what the peer-reviewed literature, the randomized controlled trials, the systematic reviews — what that body of evidence actually said. So he built the research infrastructure to find out, and brought it to Veracil as its Lead Researcher and co-founder.

“The gap between what skincare science supports and what the wellness industry claims is enormous. Veracil exists to close that gap — one honest, evidence-graded article at a time.” — Robert Lee

Together, Barbara and Robert built Veracil around a single conviction: ancestral wisdom and modern science are not opposites. Grass-fed tallow alongside PDRN serums. Rosemary oil alongside clinical peptides. Bakuchiol alongside retinoids. The best of both worlds, held to the same honest standard of evidence.

Meet the Co-Founders

Barbara Clark

Co-Founder & CEO

Born in Jamaica, Barbara brings decades of lived experience with ancestral healing traditions and years of frontline healthcare work as a CNA. She oversees Veracil’s product curation, brand direction, and community mission. As a Black female immigrant entrepreneur, she is committed to representation, holistic wellness, and making premium natural skincare accessible to everyone.

Barbara became a U.S. citizen in January 2026 — the same year she co-founded Veracil. Her journey from CNA to CEO is the heart of this brand.

Robert Lee

Co-Founder & Lead Researcher

Robert leads Veracil’s research and editorial operations. He reviews primary literature from PubMed, evaluates study design and sample sizes, assesses funding sources, and translates complex dermatological and cosmetic science into plain language that informed consumers can actually use.

He built Veracil’s evidence tier system, the Confirm or Bust verdict framework, and the editorial standards that govern every article published on this site. His commitment: never overstate what the science supports.

Our Philosophy

  • Ancestral wisdom meets modern science — we honor healing traditions while holding every ingredient claim to peer-reviewed evidence standards
  • Gentle, effective formulations — our products work with your body’s natural processes, not against them. Read the science: Complete Skin Barrier Guide
  • Holistic wellness — true beauty radiates from healthy skin and hair, nourished from the outside in. See: How Diet and Vitamins Transform Your Complexion
  • Radical transparency — we disclose commercial relationships, cite our sources, and tell you when the evidence is weak
  • Representation — as a Black female-owned business, we are committed to uplifting our community and serving skin types and concerns that mainstream brands have historically underserved. See: Best Skincare Practices for Women of Color

The Veracil Research Team: Our Editorial Standards

Every article published on Veracil is produced under Robert Lee’s editorial oversight and follows a structured research process. Here is exactly how we work:

Our Evidence Tier System

Every major claim in our articles is labeled with an evidence tier. This is our commitment to intellectual honesty — we will never present preliminary data as settled science.

TIER 1
Multiple peer-reviewed RCTs confirm — the highest level of evidence. Multiple randomized controlled trials in human subjects. Examples: retinoids, vitamin C, SPF.
TIER 2
Early clinical research suggests — one or more clinical studies, strong mechanistic data, or robust in vitro research. Examples: PDRN, GHK-Cu, bakuchiol.
TIER 3
Evidence limited to mechanistic studies and anecdotal reports — biologically plausible, some in vitro or animal data, but limited controlled human trials.
TIER 4
Biologically plausible but unconfirmed in controlled human trials — theoretical mechanisms exist but human evidence is absent or contradictory.

Our Editorial Standards

📚 Named Citations

Every major claim includes the author, year, journal, and PubMed PMID link. We do not write “studies show” without naming the study.

⚖️ Honest Limitations

We explicitly state what an ingredient does NOT do. If evidence is limited to in vitro data or small trials, we say so.

🎯 Calibrated Verdicts

“Confirmed” = multiple RCTs only. “Preliminary” = promising early evidence. “Inconclusive” = mixed evidence. “Bust” = evidence contradicts the claim.

🛡️ Medical Disclaimers

Any article touching a medical condition includes a disclaimer near the top. Our content is educational, not medical advice.

💰 Commercial Disclosure

When we recommend products Veracil sells, we say so explicitly before the Shop This section.

🔄 Regular Updates

Evergreen articles are reviewed and updated as new research emerges. Update dates are displayed on all articles.

Words we never use: proven, cures, heals, eliminates, guaranteed.
Words we use instead: may support, early research suggests, some studies indicate, anecdotally reported, mechanistically plausible.
