Why Tallow May Be Better Than Petroleum for Tattoos Specifically

  1. Days 1–3: Follow your artist's initial wrap protocol. When switching to balm, apply a very thin layer of tallow — less than you think you need. Thick application can trap bacteria.
  2. Days 4–14: Apply 2–3x daily after gentle washing with fragrance-free soap. Keep the layer thin and even.
  3. After healing: Continue with tallow or a tallow-based moisturizer to maintain ink vibrancy — well-hydrated skin keeps tattoos looking sharper longer.
