Acne scars affect an estimated 95% of people who experience inflammatory acne — yet most of the internet's advice on treating them either oversells expensive procedures or undersells what consistent topical care can actually do. First: What Kind of "Scar" Are We Talking About?
This distinction matters enormously and most tallow content ignores it entirely.
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) — flat dark marks left after a pimple heals. Not true scars. Respond well to topical treatment.
- Post-inflammatory erythema (PIE) — flat red or pink marks. Vascular in origin. Respond to different interventions than PIH.

What Tallow Actually Contains — and Why It Matters
Grass-fed tallow's fatty acid profile is remarkably similar to human sebum: approximately 50% oleic acid, 25% palmitic acid, 3% stearic acid, and small amounts of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and palmitoleic acid. This similarity is the core of tallow's skin compatibility argument.
Oleic acid supports skin barrier function and has anti-inflammatory properties. Palmitoleic acid is an antimicrobial fatty acid naturally present in young skin that declines with age. CLA has demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity in vitro.
